So, in this day and age, almost everyone has a water filtration system. These are important to have in a household. They help to make sure that minerals and chemicals that could be harmful to our bodies are filtered out of our potable water. They also help to filter out anything that could cause the water to taste or smell funny. But did you know that there are several different types of filters to choose from?

The most common form of home filtration for drinking water is fridge filters and carafes. In the fridge, filters are the height of convenience. However, buying a new fridge for this reason just is not in most people’s budgets. Smaller carafes that fit inside the fridge are a popular alternative. These do require constant refilling. For households with large amounts of people, this may not be the best option.

Under the sink, water purifiers are designed primarily for drinking water. These are usually connected to the cold water line in the cabinet under your kitchen sink. They will usually come with the manufacturer’s instructions so you can install them yourself. If you run into trouble, call a professional plumber.

Carbon and charcoal filtration systems are great for households that have bad-tasting water or bad-smelling water. This is a particular problem for homes on well water. You may be concerned about bacteria or sulfur in the water. These types of filters can help with that. They are also good for homes on municipal water supplies that contain traces of chlorine.

You can choose a whole house water filter as well. These will treat all of the water in your home when they are connected to the main supply line. You can also filter just your hot or cold water. To do this, you install the filter to the appropriate pipe on your water heater.

The filter that is not a filter is the water ionizer. As opposed to filtering out contaminants, a water ionizer uses an electric charge to ionize the water. Some claim this provides health benefits. There are unfortunately no studies that out the benefits of water ionization.

Whatever type of filter fits your lifestyle, Express Plumbing Heating & Air is here to help you install it. Give us a call today!
