We’ve all heard the story, and we all know the song. But did you know that you can actually visit the North Pole? No, I’m not talking about the tippy top of the Earth. I’m talking about the North Pole, Alaska. So according to their visitor site, it’s “Where the spirit of Christmas lives year-round!”

Originally known as Davis, the small settlement changed its name to the North Pole in 1952. The original hope was to attract tourism and possibly some manufactures that wanted to market items “Made in The North Pole”. While the manufacturing opportunity didn’t blossom as hoped, the little city continued to grow. There is an ongoing interest in continuing to develop it as a theme city.

While visiting, you can take strolls down streets such as Santa Clause Lane. Mistletoe, and Blitzen. Painted in Christmas colors. Even the street lights have candy cane designs! On your way into town, you will see Santa’s house, complete with live reindeer! No matter what time of year you visit, you will have an opportunity to get a picture taken with the big guy.

Of course, the beginning of the holiday season is a big deal in the North Pole. Every year they kick it off with a Winter Festival. You can expect fireworks, ice carving contests, and community tree lighting. You can always find something fun and festive to do. After all, it is the home of jolly old Saint Nick!

The Hotel North Pole has cozy accommodations for little elves visiting Santa. The staff wants you to get the most out of your visit and will help you book an adventure with Alaskan sled dogs. They also offer beautiful views of the Northern Lights. All in all, it sounds like a great place to take a whimsical Christmas Vacation!
